What you need:

  • All-purpose flour
  • Granulated Sugar
  • Salt
  • Baking Powder
  • Eggs
  • Oil
  • Warm Water or Milk
  • Vanilla Extract

Step one: Making a sponge cake is really easy. We bet you did not know that when you googles “how to make sponge cake”. To begin, prepare a baking pan and heat the oven to 350 degrees. Spray the pan with nonstick cooking spray, line it with parchment paper, then spray it once more. Alternately, dab on some melted butter and sprinkle on some flour. Next combine salt, baking powder, and all-purpose flour in a big bowl. Set aside.

Step two: Next, separate the egg whites and yolks into two separate bowls that are clean and grease-free. Thereafter, whip egg whites with a dash of cream of tartar using a wire attachment until frothy. Next, beat roughly half of the granulated sugar specified in the recipe gradually into the mixture. Egg whites should be beaten until a stiff, glossy peak forms.

Meringue is prone to being overworked. When whipping meringue, it is essential to pause the mixer a few times and check to see if a firm peak has developed. Over-mixing meringue causes it to become gritty. Your cake will be dry due to the overworked, gritty meringue.

Step three: The leftover powdered sugar and egg yolks should now be added to a separate bowl. Beat at a medium-high pace until the color and volume are pale. Make sure the egg yolks are well-integrated by giving the bowl a couple of good scrapes. Beat the ingredients until it hits the ribbon stage.

Step four: Once the ribbon stage is reached, it's time to add oil. Beat oil into the mixture slowly and continuously at a low to medium speed. Mix thoroughly. thereafter fill a measuring cup with warm water. And beat in warm water slowly, gently, in one continuous stream. To make sure the mixture is uniform, scrape the bowl multiple times.

Step five: The mixture will get thinner after the addition of water. After that, you may beat in the vanilla extract. Keep beating for an additional two minutes, or until the mixture is extremely light in color and aerated.

Step six: Mix together the egg yolks and meringue, then gradually fold in the sifted flour in alternate batches. Do not stir. The cake mixture will substantially deflate when stirred, resulting in a thick cake batter. Give the cake batter three additional folding motions once all visible flour streaks have dissolved. To make sure the batter is properly combined, gently use the spatula to scrape the bottom of the bowl.

Step seven: Fill a prepared cake pan with the sponge cake batter. Bake for 30-35 minutes at 350°F. A stick pushed into the cake should come out clean, with no crumbs still attached. This indicates that the cake is done. After allowing the cake to cool in the pan for five minutes, flip it over onto a cooling rack.
